Middle & High School Art: The Study of Clouds
Sunday, April 12th 4:00–6:00 PM
The Study of Clouds
Grades 6–12
In this class, students will explore the beauty and movement of clouds through both art history and hands-on creation. We’ll begin by looking at how several artists have approached painting skies and atmosphere, studying different techniques used to capture light, depth, and mood.
Students will then learn how to create their own sunset sky with clouds using chalk pastels, focusing on blending, layering, and color transitions. Emphasis will be placed on observing how clouds form, how light changes throughout the sky, and how color can express time of day and emotion.
This class encourages both technical skill development and personal interpretation, allowing students to experiment while building confidence in a new medium. No prior pastel experience is required — just curiosity and a willingness to explore.
